Fashioned by Northup Ward W Golf Course Architect, Dong Nai Golf is situated in Trang Bom Dong Nai Province. Taking 1 hour (about 50 km) to drive from the city center, this golf course is a bit further away from the city than some of Ho Chi Minh golf courses.
As the golf course is built adjacent to a big and charming natural lake (Ho Song May - Cloudy River Lake), golfers have various stunning seasonal views, in particular during the dry and humid season. This outstanding design is on purpose to enhance the visual treat of the golf course. Maybe owning to it, Dong Nai Golf Resort was voted the best landscape in Vietnam in 2003; and it will struggle to regain the recognition of recent competition.
In 1997 the first 18 holes were officially opened in the Dong Nai golf course, then in 2002, Northup Ward built 9 remainings, taking the total to 27.
Meeting international requirements, the 27-hole golf course was built with 300 hectares, featuring 3 standard courses named A, B, C. Each course haves 9 holes, stretching approximately 3500 yards.
Going through Dong Nai Golf Resort
The first word to mention about this Vietnam golf course is steep. From the start, the very calm and quiet surroundings with trees lined up on either side of the sloping fairway come to play. Besides, the landing area is steep, created by the elevation change from 62 to 180 feet above sea level.
The north nine starts with four holes arranged around the shore of a steep peninsula heavily forested. The routing requires counterclockwise play between heavy woods on the right and lake on the left. On the first tee, you hit the ball along the lake for a short dogleg from a tee which is higher to the fairway 60 feet. Its distance is 492 yards down from the middle of the fairway, so it's not that far, but you need 312-yard carriers to cut the corner and land the ball the area sloping towards the lake. It takes two shots to reach the green but the second one is uphill in 45 feet with bunkers surrounding.
One of the featured challenges of the Bo Chang Dong Nai Golf Course is a lot of water hazards, especially in the first five holes along with seven of the back nine. Coupled with water is the scenic backdrop created by water on many holes. There is a wonderful landscape with stunning scenery of the lake and abundant wildlife surrounding for the signature third hole, a par 3 (165 yards). At this hole, the lake backdrop is intensified as it requires playing up to an island green. Other significant holes at the Bo Chang Dong Nai golf course are the 10th and 11th ones (395 yards and 535 yards, respectively). All of them demand precise approach by both layups and water-carries to access the greens. Also, water is the obstacle in the green of the fifteenth dogleg to the left side.
