The golf course overview
Vietnam Golf & Country Club (or VGCC), or as the locals used to call Thu Duc golf course, uses its advantage as the nearest course to the center of Ho Chi Minh city, to become the host of many Asian PGA tour events.
Vietnam Golf and Country Club, the first 36 hole golf course in Vietnam, is built on a 300-hectare land and consists of two championship courses, the old West and the new East. The architects exploited the benefit of the original land to create the most natural course of all. The two courses set around the existing woodlands, golfers will feel challenged with the tree lines run throughout the course.
VGCC is considered a semi-private golf club. Although it mainly opened for locals and expatriates, on weekdays outside guests can make a booking.
Vietnam Golf & Country Club West course
The West course was designed by Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih in 1994, and since then it has hosted two Vietnam Open tournaments. With the least land movement, the course is truly a traditional course with mature tree line fairways and fast level greens, all blended well with the natural environment.
The course has narrow fairways, some of which feature oil palm trees in the middle. The most difficult point golfers have to overcome is the course’s championship length. One play can extend till late afternoon if the first swing drifts away. Besides that, Bermuda Tifeagle greens covering the area is also a memorable feature of the course.
The 11th is one of the holes that carry the trait of West course the best. Overall, the hole starts off with a number of palm trees, then continues with a dogleg shape on the left side and for the final touch, the green here is really wide and a little bit sunken down. Therefore, if you aim for touching the green, you have to fly the ball over an area between a series of bunkers and large trees. This definitely poses a challenge to low levels of players.
Vietnam Golf & Country Club East course
The East Course was designed by Lee Trevino, a famous champion winner. The course started to come into shape three years after the West course opened. Compared to the old course, the East course’s fairways are more generous. However, with a variety of bunkers, water hazards, and elevated Bermuda TifDwarf greens intertwined, many golfers still struggle in order to reach the greens. After reaching the undulating greens, golfers will have to face another difficulty in setting up shots.
The East course’s signature hole is the eleventh of 395 yards, par-4. Having almost the same design as the 11th in West course, but it still offers its twist and turns. Golfers can approach the hole in two ways. One is tackled from the left side, the route begins with enormous woodland and a sharp dogleg to follow. Space between these two obstacles is a range of long bunkers, bordering the lake beside it. For another approach, the method is to go for a full swing on the right side, but make sure to keep the water hazard border on sight, too much strength and the ball will fall right into the lake. Waiting at the end of the hole are many bunkers protecting the green.
Due to its clever design, in 2008, the East course proudly became the host of the Vietnam Hana Bank Masters of the Asian Tour.
Both the east and the west are standard 18 holes 72 par courses, but each has its own trait. You can choose the course to play depending on your liking, but we can guarantee that the two courses of VGCC can both offer you a leisure golfing experience.
Services and facilities
Vietnam Golf & Country Club offers multiple facilities from Pro shop, fitting center, restaurant, private rooms to the beautiful Lakeview villas..., all lying on the West course side.
The private modern Clubhouse has a large locker area, side by side with a Japanese shower and sauna system. After a round of playtime, you can enjoy any international cuisine at the VGCC restaurant, but of course, Vietnamese local dishes are still highly recommended. On a full-day service, the restaurant can hold up to 220 persons.
All golf equipment, from the latest design to the used ones, are all provided here in the pro shop. What you get from Vietnam Golf and Country Club is not just pure golf but also an exquisite experience in the relaxing atmosphere of Vietnam city.
